With back-to-school sales in the rearview mirror and Black Friday more than a month away, you might think there are no bargains to be had for the next several weeks. But the truth is, October and November have plenty of fall bargains waiting to be snapped up by savvy shoppers like you. Here’s what to buy between now and the start of the holiday shopping season — but only if it fills a need. Remember, a bargain isn’t a bargain if you don’t actually need what you’re buying.  Â
New Car, Truck or VanÂ
If you’re in the market for a new car, from now until the end of the year is the time to buy. Dealerships are trying to clear out the past model year to make room for the new model year vehicles rolling in. You’re likely to get more for your trade, as well as a lower overall price. Just remember to say no to unnecessary upgrades and add-ons that could eat into your savings.
Pizza
It’s not just big ticket items like vehicles that are on sale this month. You’ll find bargains on everyday items, too. October is National Pizza Month. Be on the lookout for generous discounts and offers from all the major pizza chains, including Pizza Hut and Domino’s. Sounds like it’s time for a pizza party!
Garden Tools & Plants
Lawn mowers, leaf blowers, hand tools and garden hoses are all discounted this month. You’ll also want to shop your local garden center or nursery to check out the plants that are on sale. Most nurseries offer big discounts on perennials that are about to go dormant for the winner. Additionally, you’ll find potted plants that won’t make it through the winter outside. But, you can keep them indoors until it’s time to plant again in the spring.
In-season Fruits & Vegetables
While it’s always a money-saving choice to go with in-season produce, this is an especially good time of year to stock up because much of what is available is good for canning and freezing. Apples are in abundance, as are many varieties of squash, along with sweet potatoes, pomegranates and fresh cranberries — here’s an easy recipe that will convince you to stop buying the canned variety.
Athletic Footwear
Whether you call them sneakers, kicks or trainers, now is the time to buy athletic shoes. You’ll find fall bargains at many major retailers on shoes for serious athletes as well as sporty, ‘athleisure’ styles. If you know your kids are going to have new shoes on their holiday wish lists, buy now and stash them away until December.
